Following several open-air programmes, musical life is resuming at the Hungarian State Opera – outdoors. On 19 August 2020, the eve of the National Holiday, the park surrounding the new venue called Eiffel Art Studios will host a massive gala programme featuring the artists of the Hungarian State Opera and one of the most popular tenors of our time: Jonas Kaufmann.
Beginning with 1 July, guided tours are available again at the Opera House. English language tours take place daily at 2:00, 3:00 and 4:00 p.m. Tours in Hungarian are offered at 4:00 p.m. on Thursdays and 2:00 p.m. on Sundays.
The Hungarian National Ballet, the 136-year-old official ballet company of the Hungarian State Opera, announces an online audition upon invitation for soloists and corps de ballet with contracts starting from 15 July 2020 or 1 October for soloists, and 15 July 2020 for corps de ballet (depending on the applicants’ work visa requirements). Applications by classically trained, professional male and female ballet dancers are welcome. Outstanding technique and qualities are a must.

Budapest-born mezzo-soprano Melinda Heiter obtained her degree in solo voice from the Budapest Pedagogical Institute of the Ference Liszt Academy of Music in 2008, after completing her studies in French and Portuguese at the Faculty of Humanities at Eötvös Loránd University. Her current teachers are Bernadett Wiedemann and répétiteur Katalin Szőke, and she has also participated in Júlia Hamari's master classes every year since 2003. She has sung in numerous theatres and concert halls both in Hungary and abroad, including the Béla Bartók National Concert Hall, the Ferenc Liszt Music Academy, the National Theatre, the Csokonai National Theatre of Debrecen, the national theatres of Miskolc and Szeged, Szombathely's Bartók Hall, Staatstheater Braunschweig, Das Zentrum Europasaal Bayreuth, Stadthalle Bayreuth, Aalto Musiktheater Essen. She has also appeared at a number of festivals both in Hungary and abroad, such as the Bartók Plus Opera Festival, the Franz-Liszt-Jubiläum 2011 in Bayreuth, the Budapest Spring Festival, the Kammeroper Schloss Rheinsberg Opera Festival, the Iseumi Summer Open-air Festival in Szombathely, the Early Music Festival in Fertőd and the Richard-Wagner-Jubiläum 2013 in Bayreuth. In 2013, she won the Eighth International József Simándy Singing Competition, taking away two special prizes as well. In that same year, she also received the Bayreuth scholarship of the Richard Wagner Society. In 2014, she was a finalist in the Competizione dell’Opera in Tashkent. She made her debut on the stage of the Hungarian State Opera House in 2012 in the role of Dorabella in Così fan tutte, later going on to sing the roles of Cherubino (Le nozze di Figaro), Mercédès (Carmen), Lola (Cavelleria rusticana), Flosshilde (Das Rheingold) and the High Priestess (Aida).
