Inaugurating the Eiffel Art Studios Park with Jonas Kaufmann and 20 Hungarian soloists

Following several open-air programmes, musical life is resuming at the Hungarian State Opera – outdoors. On 19 August 2020, the eve of the National Holiday,  the park surrounding the new venue called Eiffel Art Studios will host a massive gala programme featuring the artists of the Hungarian State Opera and one of the most popular tenors of our time: Jonas Kaufmann.

Guided tours are available again at the Opera House

Beginning with 1 July, guided tours are available again at the Opera House. English language tours take place daily at 2:00, 3:00 and 4:00 p.m. Tours in Hungarian are offered at 4:00 p.m. on Thursdays and 2:00 p.m. on Sundays.

Online audition for the Hungarian National Ballet

The Hungarian National Ballet, the 136-year-old official ballet company of the Hungarian State Opera, announces an online audition upon invitation for soloists and corps de ballet with contracts starting from 15 July 2020 or 1 October for soloists, and 15 July 2020 for corps de ballet (depending on the applicants’ work visa requirements). Applications by classically trained, professional male and female ballet dancers are welcome. Outstanding technique and qualities are a must.

OpeRadio – the Opera's own radio station

The Hungarian State Opera starts its own radio station. A thematic station that solely broadcasts opera and ballet music has so far been missing from the Hungarian selection.

The Construction of the Opera House

The Neo-Renaissance palace designed by Miklós Ybl has been open to opera and ballet lovers for more than one hundred thirty years. Thousands of tourists visit the building each year to admire one of Budapest’s most important historical monuments. more »

The limestone façade

The main façade of the Ybl palace on Andrássy út is quite imposing, not only because of its structure, but also due to its decorations. more »

The foyer

Spending time in the rich colours of the foyer, decorated with Italian marbles, allows you to really get in the mood for musical experiences. more »

The grand staircase

The bifurcated stairs in the foyer lead up to the grand staircase, where the aesthetic experience becomes even greater. more »

The auditorium

The horseshoe-shaped, three-storey auditorium provides an exhilarating feeling of space. more »

The royal staircase

Franz Joseph I and Queen Sissi have trod the very steps that lead up to the salons on the first floor. The original function of the separate stairs leading from the carriage ramp on Dalszínház Street has been retained, though today it is also used for performances. more »

The Bertalan Székely Parlour

The upstairs gallery of the Royal Stairs leads to the left side proscenium box salon, called the Bertalan Székely Parlour. Besides the rich oak woodwork, the other main ornament in this room is Bertalan Székely’s Rococo-style frieze entitled The Four Seasons. more »

The Red Parlour

The oak-covered guest hall of the royal box was named for its sour cherry coloured silk textiles. more »

The Feszty Bar

The two levels of the foyer and the smoking halls decorated with oak panelling and blue and golden textiles provide the perfect place for conversations and social interactions in the intermissions.  more »

Opera Café

A café where you can have lunch, dinner, a mid-afternoon pastry, or a glass of champagne in informal but classy setting. more »

The modernisation of the Opera

As it has been more than thirty years since the Ybl Palace on Andrássy út has been renovated, the building’s reconstruction has become quite timely. The works involve giving new functions to many rooms and they also solve a number of problems faced by our artists during the course of their work. more »
